Advocacy

ABC-NJ actively works with all levels of government to represent member interests and the merit shop construction industry.

In the real world of construction, ABC’s maxim “Get into Politics or Get out of Business” is true. The fact is, few businesses or individuals have the time or resources to monitor legislation that directly affects their industry, or to lobby their law makers on a continuous basis. ABC-NJ has developed strong relationships with government officials at the local, state, and federal levels helping to make us the merit shop’s most influential advocate.

Our team works hard to:

  • Represent members, workers, apprentices, and the merit shop philosophy at public policy meetings, legislative hearings, press conferences, and other forums.
  • Educate the community about local legislation, candidates, and elections.
  • Manage grassroots efforts (letter campaigns, phone calls, legislative visits) to support critical issues.
  • Fund-raise in order to support construction-friendly candidates and legislation.

ABC members are provided with the knowledge and representation so they can protect their companies from unfair and anti-competitive business practices. ABC’s merit shop philosophy and fair and open competition political agenda ranks among the main reasons why companies join and remain in ABC.

If you would like to be a part of ABC’s advocacy efforts, connect with elected officials and staff to further free enterprise and the merit shop philosophy through policy, or earn more about the current state of politics and policy in New Jersey, please contact Deputy Director of Government Affairs Derek DeLuca at (732) 586-2354 or by email at [email protected].
