Associated Builders and Contractors is the voice of the merit shop in the construction industry, advocating for our members, regardless of labor affiliation.
Who is ABC?
Celebrating its 75th anniversary in 2025, Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc. is a national construction industry trade association established in 1950 with 67 chapters and more than 23,000 members. Founded on the merit shop philosophy, ABC helps members develop people, win work and deliver that work safely, ethically and profitably for the betterment of the communities in which ABC and its members live and work. In New Jersey, we are the largest ABC Chapter, representing over 1,600 member companies that employ tens of thousands of individuals – from the Jersey Shore to High Point State Park, from the Delaware Bay to the Hudson River – and everywhere in between.
What does ABC Do?
Founded on the merit shop philosophy in 1973, the New Jersey Chapter of ABC is a community of common interest.
ABC helps our members develop people, win work and perform that work safely, ethically, and profitably for the betterment of the communities where we work and live.
ABC defends the rights of businesses to operate regardless of labor affiliation, within their workforce, or on a construction jobsite.
ABC Helps Members Win Work
ABC creates opportunities for its members to compete for work on a fair and level playing field, and then helps them win work based on merit. ABC defends open competition in construction contracting at the national, state, and local levels, opposing government-mandated project labor agreements and prevailing wage laws while supporting right-to-work policies. During fiscal years 2009-2024, ABC members won 54% of the value of federal contracts of $35 million or more, totaling $119 billion.
