Over the July 4 weekend, Texas was hit with devastating flooding from massive rainstorms bringing widespread damage. As of the morning of July 7, more than 80 people, including at least 28 children, have tragically lost their lives due to this flash flooding, and thousands of residents have been displaced and are in need of assistance.
I’m always amazed at how eager our ABC community is to support relief and recovery efforts, and I’m often asked, “How can I help?” Well, there’s a lot you can do to assist our fellow members and residents during this time. If you are interested, please consider the following:
Donate to the American Red Cross through ABC’s donation portal. Your Red Cross disaster relief gift will help people whose lives have been upended by wildfires, storms, floods and countless other crises. This custom website tracks donations by the ABC community and can be dedicated to a friend or loved one.
Donate to the ABC Cares Foundation via the online portal. The ABC Cares Foundation Inc., the charitable affiliate of Associated Builders and Contractors Florida East Coast chapter, are committed to assisting communities affected by this devastating flooding. 100% of donations made to the ABC Cares Foundation—an IRS 501(c)(3)—for this purpose will be restricted, directly supporting regional needs, and are 100% tax-deductible.
Local efforts are underway to collect critical supplies for those impacted by the flooding.
Current needs include:
- Hygiene Items: Toothbrushes, toothpaste, mouthwash, body wash, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, face and hand wipes, hand sanitizer, women’s sanitary products
- Clothing and Essentials: New or gently used clothing, shoes, socks (all sizes), diapers, pull-ups, wipes, towels, blankets and bedding
- Food and Beverages: Pre-packaged snacks and meals, bottled water
- Pet Supplies: Dog and cat food
